Last Reunions

Lenard Wichtowski is reflected in the memorial to the 57th Bomb Wing during a reunion Sept. 27 outside the U.S. Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson Air Force base in Dayton, Ohio. According to the Department of Veteran Affairs, just a little over 1 million World War II veterans remain. They are in their 80s and 90s, and many are infirm or fragile. The sparsely attended reunions are yearly reminders of the passing of the Greatest Generation.
