Military Preventing Rape

Petty officers John Tate (left) and Christopher Yates man the desk entrance and check identifications at one of the apartment complexes on the 32nd Street Naval Base in San Diego. Tate serves on one of the Navy's new nightly patrol units charged with policing bases to control heavy drinking and reckless behavior. The patrols are among a number of new initiatives the armed forces is implementing to try to stop sexual assaults by changing the military's work-hard, play-hard culture.
