This memorial honoring the 38 Dakota Native Americans who were executed on Dec. 26, 1862, is only in the planning stages, but its creators hope to raise money and build it this fall. It would sit in Mankato's Reconciliation Park near the buffalo statue. The concept for this monument, planned to be 20 feet in diameter, was created by Vernell Wabasha and designed by Linda and Marvin Bernard.
