An Amboy teenager has been charged with arson for her connection to a pair of fires reported Sunday evening in southwestern Blue Earth County.
Amanda Rae Ristau, 16, was charged Monday with four felony-level counts of arson in Blue Earth County District Court. Her next hearing has not yet been scheduled.
Ristau called police around 5:20 p.m. to report she had started a fire on her parent’s property, using gasoline to start a barn and garage on fire, according to the criminal complaint. When she was apprehended on 105th Street in Amboy, law enforcement also found a loaded, .22-caliber rifle.
As Ristau was being taken into custody, law enforcement was notified by a passing driver that a ditch was burning about a half-mile away. That fire spread to a nearby cornfield. Damage estimates have not yet been calculated. Ristau advised an officer that she used a lighter to set the cornfield on fire, according to the complaint.
Attempts to call Ristau were not successful.
Both fires were extinguished without injury.
