---- — MANKATO — FedEx is to build a 91,000-square-foot distribution center in the Eastwood Energy Center on Mankato's northeast edge.
The city intends to sell roughly 14 acres to FedEx for $40,000 an acre.
City Economic Development Director Paul Vogel told The Free Press that FedEx wants to begin construction this year. He said the facility will serve as a regional distribution hub for the company.
On Monday the Mankato City Council, acting as the Economic Development Authority, is expected to approve the sale of the land.
Eastwood Energy Center is northeast of Eastwood Industrial Park.
The Energy Center was added by the city as the original industrial park filled up with businesses that include AgStar, Country Inn & Suites and the Verizon Wireless service call center (formerly Midwest Wireless).
The new FedEx distribution center will be on Energy Drive and is accessed off North Victory Drive, east of Highway 22.
