---- — Port Authority change gets hearing
NORTH MANKATO — A proposal to align city councilors’ Port Authority terms with their elected City Council terms goes to a public hearing on Feb. 18.
All five North Mankato councilors already belong to the seven-person Port Authority, the city’s economic development arm.
This change would make those terms concurrent, so that a councilor does not remain on the Port Authority after leaving the City Council.
A staff memo supporting the change notes that all of the councilors were put on the Port Authority in order to resolve questions about transparency. Leaving councilors on the Port Authority after their regular term is up would conflict with that goal, according to the memo.
The Feb. 18 public hearing is scheduled for at 7 p.m.
