Galiardi named MSU men's hockey captain

MANKATO — Senior forward Rylan Galiardi has been named captain of the Minnesota State men’s hockey team, the team announced this week.

Senior defensemen Channing Boe and Ben Youds will be the assistant captains.

Galiardi, a native of Calgary, Alberta, has played in 108 games over his first three seasons, scoring 22 goals and assisting on 40 others. He was tied for second on the team in scoring last season with 25 points and tied for third onthe team with 11 goals. Galiardi is a two-time WCHA all-academic pick and was named one of the league’s scholar-athletes last season.

Boe, a Bemidji native, was an assistant captain last season. He has played in 93 career games, scoring 15  points. Youds, a Maple Grove native, led the Mavericks in scoring last season with three goals and 26 points. He has played in 108 career games, scoring four goals and 42 points.

Minnesota State will begin practice on Oct. 2 and play an exhibition game against the University of British Columbia on Oct. 4 at the Verizon Wireless Center. The Mavericks’ first regular-season games will be Oct. 9-10 when the Mavericks host St. Lawrence.
