RAPIDAN — Cowboys. Belly dancers. Fire fighting. Stilt-walking. And, oh man, a canon.

There are so very many reasons kids have a blast at History Fest every year. Saturday, at Jack McGowan’s farm, there will be entertainment ranging from cider making to a rickshaw, butter churning to juggling, rock candy to a trebuchet — it’s almost too much.

The fest was created by McGowan for kids to have hands-on historical learning experiences through activities and re-enactments. The first two days are always reserved for schools, but the public is invited Saturday.

The non-profit organization relies on sponsors, donations, fund-raisers and volunteers. Hundreds of volunteers are needed.

If interested in volunteering, call 388-2506.
