A few years ago, fund-raising began in earnest to build a 12,000-square-foot facility. With donations from alumni, community members and other benefactors, 90 percent of the needed $2.7 million has been reached.
That has allowed a ceremonial groundbreaking date to be set for April 27, with a projected opening date of Feb. 1, 2015.
“It's very exciting,” Biren said.
All of the Newman Center's offices, gatherings, meetings and services will be held at the new facility.
