Country megastars in Mankato on Friday

The Band Perry is bringing its "We Are Pioneers" tour to Mankato at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Opening acts include Easton Corbin and Lindsay Ell.

Since releasing its self-titled debut album on Republic Nashville in 2010, The Band Perry has become one of country music's most popular acts. Fronted by Kimberly Perry and rounded out by her younger brothers Reid and Neil, the band has notched a string of hit singles, including the quadruple-platinum “If I Die Young” as well as the consecutive No. 1 hits, “Better Dig Two” and “DONE.”

Tickets for The Band Perry are $39.75 and $29.75 and are available at the Verizon Wireless Center Ticket Office and all Ticketmaster locations.

MSU streaming Saturday theatre production

The Minnesota State University Department of Theatre and Dance’s performance of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday will be streamed live.

The event will mark the first time an MSU theatre production will be rebroadcast, either live or recorded. The stream will be found at http://link.mnsu.edu/mavtubelive.

The event will be produced with multiple camera angles at the rear and on the sides of the theatre with high-definition cameras. Plugging into the live sound feed will enhance the microphones that are planned to be placed at either side of the proscenium of the theatre. Technicians plan to attend various rehearsals and live performances so the production can be “live mixed,” meaning switching from one camera angle to another on the spot.

The live stream of a theatre production is unique, because nearly all theatre productions are strictly limited by rights agreements. William Shakespeare’s “As You Like It,” however, is in the public domain. In addition to a live stream, this allows the department to use the recorded version of the production in the future, either in classroom activities or other opportunities.

The live stream will be produced by Maverick Visual Productions.
