The 410 Project art gallery has two causes to celebrate on Friday.
For starters, the gallery debuts "Chunks, Nuggets, Junk and Fuzz," a display of collaboratively made prints by Jon Swindler and Nick Satinover. And further, the 410 Project will be screening the latest short documentary by Made in Mankato during that night's opening reception.
Made in Mankato is a video production company-for-hire that has produced a series of five-minute documentaries about local businesses as a way of giving back to the community. The 410 Project is this month's subject. The reception will be held 7-9 p.m. and the screening will be held at 8 p.m. at the gallery, 523 S. Front St.
As for the exhibit, Swindler is a printmaking instructor at the University of Georgia while Satinover teaches printmaking at the University of Minnesota. The pair of artists have collaborated to create a large volume of co-constructed prints, a selection of which will be on display at the 410 through March 23. On Swindler's website, he describes the project thus:
"The images presented in this portfolio are the result of ongoing, long-distance, digitally aided, multimedia collaboration. The intention of this collaboration is to examine, exploit, and expound the overlapping content found in both of our art practices, while simultaneously exploring aesthetic concerns of process and dialogue between two different, but like-minded artists."
Dana Sikkila, director of the 410 Project, said she met Satinover during her recent installation at the Minnesota Museum of American Art's Project Space. She said she was happy to oblige when he applied for a show a few months later.
"It's very exciting for the gallery," Sikkila said. "Both artists are pretty well established."
Satinover has also agreed to return to the gallery later this summer for a printmaking demo at the 410's Black Water Press.
