Winter Solstice Party benefits CADA House, Salvation Army

Having a safe and warm place to go is something many take for granted; however, those who don’t have the opportunity for that luxury look to CADA House of Mankato to become their safe haven.

In an effort to raise awareness and stability for those in need this holiday season, Full Moon Productions will be hosting its first Winter Solstice Party at Midtown Tavern on Saturday in support of CADA House and The Salvation Army.

Christy Steinbach, vice president of the Solstice Committee for Full Moon Productions, says the motivation behind creating such an event was initiated by personal reflection within the committee.

“Three of us on the committee are mothers and we couldn’t stop thinking about how difficult it would be to be cold and hungry during this time of year,” Steinbach said.

Warm clothing and monetary donations for men, women and children are welcomed at the event that begins at noon and lasts until 2 a.m. The event is being separated into two parts: The first half, from noon until 6 p.m., will be an all-ages, family-friendly gathering of local musicians and vendors.

Musicians Mick Bliss, Lions and Monkeys, and Sunshyne from the band i like you. will be performing during this portion of the event along with other artists from the area.

With those performances, a raffle will be held for items donated by local companies such as Tangles, Jake’s Stadium Pizza and Christy’s Crystals. The committee also received donations from contributors across the country.

“When we put out the information, donations just started flooding in to support our cause,” Steinbach said.

In addition to the fall ages half, there will be a 21-plus event held from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. The cover charge will be $5 and musicians Tao Tree, Mikel Wright and The Wrongs, and Plastic Bag Boyz will be performing, among others.
