MANKATO — Not surprisingly, entertainment offerings slow down during the holiday season.
But not all will be quiet between now and New Year's Day. The following is a quick tour of upcoming concerts and events:
New Year's Eve Comedy Bash: In what has become a bona fide holiday favorite, the Best Western is hosting yet another evening of comedy on Tuesday. This year's headliners are Don Reese and Craig Allen, a pair of nationally recognized comedians with countless writing and performance credits.
Best Western is hosting two performances: 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 (general admission) and $20 (premium seating); at the door, tickets are $17 and $22, respectively. The Comedy Bash has sold out for six consecutive years. For details and tickets, visit www.mankatocomedy.com.
Grand Kabaret: The Grand Kabaret in New Ulm will be hosting a pair of concerts this weekend.
At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Minneapolis native and acclaimed pianist Scottie Miller will perform a solo concert. Miller's style incorporates elements of blues, jazz, funk and soul, and he's a 2008 inductee into the Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame.
At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, the Grand Kabaret is hosting Addison Avenue. The six-piece contemporary bluegrass and folk ensemble is an up-and-coming outfit comprised of musicians ages 17-23.
Kato Ballroom: Richie Lee and the Fabulous '50s will perform a tribute to Buddy Holly during a dinner/dance event on Tuesday.
The Kato, of course, was among the stops on the Winter Dance Party Tour of 1959. Holly and his tourmates played in Mankato a week before their plane crashed near Clear Lake, Iowa. For Tuesday's event tickets for the dinner and dance are $35. Tickets for the dance only are $18 at the door. For details, visit www.katoballroom.com.
Midtown Tavern: A raucous, all-local lineup anchors Midtown Tavern's New Year's Eve concert on Tuesday.
