---- — Concordia Historical Institute awards

Rev. Craig A Ferkenstad of St. Peter won an award at the Concordia Historical Institute gather on Nov. 7 in St Louis.

Ferkenstad won the award for his historical essay of the missionary work of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod.

VINE receives donation

The Mankato and Key City Certoma Clubs presented a $1,700 check to VINE from the "Celebrate Sound - Don't Walk in Silence" event held in September.

The funds will be used towards the installation of a looping induction system in the main community room of the new VINE locaiton.

Community feeds area children

Feeding our Community Partners will be distributing more than 500 boxes of food to Mankato area students this week as part of the BackPack Food Program.

The program ensures that food insecure children have a source of nutrition during weekends and holiday breaks.

FOCP is distributing 200 more Winter Break boxes than last year.

Minnesota Sheriffs' Scholarship Program

The following students have won a scholarship from the Minnesota Sheriffs' Association: Blue Earth -- Chase Davis; Lake Crystal -- Reid Ellanson.

Birthday celebration

Three sisters from the Mapleton and Beauford area celebrated their birthdays on Dec. 22.

The three are the last remaining of nine children. Marcella Johnston turned 101 on Dec. 22. Her sister Mary Langworthy just turned 96, and their other sister, Lucille Schubbe, will be 90 in mid-January.
