Davis to read from new works Saturday

ST. PETER – Novelist Terry Davis will offer an evening of comic and dramatic readings 7 p.m. Saturday at the Arts Center of Saint Peter.

Musical interludes will be provided by Lehi Gertz, a New Ulm-based performer specializing in klezmer and gypsy violin.

Davis will perform "Terry Davis Unhinged," which is comprised of three new pieces: “Derminology,” a reflection on Pope Francis, atheism, and warts; “Canis Mythicus,” about friendship with a colleague and the loss of a beloved pet; and “The Paper Bombs,” about the summer of 1956 “in the era of the home bomb shelter.”

Davis, who writes in Spokane, Wash., as well as Mankato, is best known as the author of three coming-of-age novels: "Vision Quest" (1979), “Mysterious Ways” (1984) and “If Rock and Roll Were A Machine” (1992). John Irving claimed “Vision Quest” was “the truest novel about growing up since ‘Catcher in the Rye.’” The book was also adapted for the 1985 film of the same title starring Matthew Modine.

The performance is for mature audiences. Admission is $10 at the door. Davis’ books will be available for purchase through the Arts Center Gallery Shop.

Beverages will be available for purchase courtesy of Patrick’s on Third beginning at 7 p.m., with the performance beginning at 7:30 p.m
