---- — 410 hosting art event for kids with disabilties

MANKATO — Before switching to special education, Elise Cronin was an art major at Minnesota State University.

So, it's only natural she believes in the power of artistic expression.

"I think it's important to foster and encourage that creative element all kids are born with," said Cronin, vice president of the MSU chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children, an organization devoted to providing opportunities and resources to children with disabilities.

Through her chapter, Cronin has organized the Art Creation Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the 410 Project, 523 S. Front St. in Mankato. The free event is open to children up to 21 years of age with any disability; art work will subsequently be displayed in the 410 gallery. In addition, the proceeds from any art that is sold will go directly to the artist.

The MSU chapter solicited donations from businesses to purchase art supplies and an iPad, which will be given away during a drawing at the event.
