Lambda Chi Alpha (pic)

The Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity gathered food donations from the Mankato area on Nov. 2.

Members gathered 2,223 pounds of food and $944 which was donated to the ECHO food shelf.

Lambda Chi Alpha teamed up with Feeding America.

Minnesota Association of Alternate Programs (Pic)

Ruth Blashack of New Ulm earned a seat on the Minnesota Association of Alternate Programs STARS student board of directors at the 20th annual Fall Leadership Conference at Camp Ripley on Nov. 6-7.

There were 148 students who engaged in two days of leadership activities. Blashack won one of five officer positions.

Blashack has participated in STARS events twice and most recently she placed third overall in public speaking. She will graduate from River Bend ALC in 2014.

Hilltop United Methodist (Pic)

Hilltop United Methodist Church celebrated the retirement of its sanctuary debt in the worship service on Nov. 17.

The special mortgage-burning service featured Pastor Marlowe Potter who was Hilltop's pastor at the groundbreaking in 1991, who returned to preach a sermon. Hilltop's current Pastor Fred Vanderwerf assisted Potter in the mortgage burning.

AgStar Fund for Rural America (Pic)

The AgStar Fund for Rural America recently awarded a $2,000 grant to Jeffers Ambulance Service through its annual Emergency Response Equipment Grant Program.

Jeffers Ambulance Service is using the grant money to purchase complete trauma bags for their staff, providing basic supplies to treat local residents faster and more efficiently.

Since its inception in 2001, the AgStar Fund as donated more than $4 million to organizations working to improve rural America.

Minnesota Valley UniServ

The following people were honored by the Minnesota Valley UniServ as their Fall 2013 Friends of Public Education: Lake Crystal Welcome Memorial -- Nancy Hanson; Madelia -- Bob Helland; Mankato -- Brian Fowler, Jessie Fowler, Karen Fowler, Lisa Jackson, Bridget Larson and Beth Rohrich; Maple River -- Cindy Wishart; New Ulm -- Erin DePew and Chris Rosenhamer.
