Upcoming Red Cross blood donation opportunities

The American Red Cross urgently needs donors to help boost the blood supply following the Independence Day holiday.

The organization has issued an emergency appeal for blood donors of all blood types, and those with O negative, B negative and A negative blood are especially encouraged to give. There is a critical need for platelet donors as well.

- 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday, Minnesota State University Phi Sigma Pi, 200 C. Centennial Student Union, Mankato.

- 12-6 p.m., Tuesday, Bethany College Meyer Hall, 700 Luther Drive, Mankato.

Ladies craft day at Harkin Store

NEW ULM -- The Harkin Store will be having a Ladies Crafts program from 1-4 p.m. Sunday.

The program will show what ladies made for their homes or for their clothing or personal items. The display of these items will be out from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Waffles and bake sale fundraiser

MANKATO -- Morson-Ario VFW Post 9713 Ladies Auxiliary will host a Dad's Belgian waffles, bake sale and Scentsy fundraiser 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Morson-Ario VFW, 1900 N. Riverfront Dr.

The event will feature all-you-can-eat waffles, toppings, sausages and beverages. The cost is $7 for ages 11 and up, $5 for ages 6-10 and free for kids age 5 and under.

Gustavus presents guest Cello and Piano Recital

ST. PETER -- The Gustavus Adolphus College Department of Music will be hosting a recital by guest cellist Nickolai Kolarov and pianist Rebekah Richards at 1:30 p.m. in the Jussi Bjorling Hall at Gustavus.

The duo will be performing music by Beethoven, Samuel Barber, Georgi Zlatev-Tcherkin and more.

Educational series for caregivers

WASECA -- "Powerful Tools for Caregivers" is a six-week educational series that will be held 10-11:30 a.m. beginning Tuesday at the Waseca Public Library, 408 State St. N.

The program empowers family caregivers to reduce negative effects of caregiving and to practice self-care. The classes are taught by trained and certified class leaders.
