The SideBar: Mankato Mosaic auditions, Ewenique quilting show this weekend

Mosaic sets auditions for holiday show

MANKATO — Mankato Mosaic Theatre Company will have auditions 4-6 p.m. Sunday and 7-8 p.m. Monday at Twin Rivers Council for the Arts.

Auditions are for Mosaic's upcoming "Blues B4 The Holidays" family show.

There are parts for six women and four men for the short plays: "Squishy's Christmas," "Mock Duck" and "A Tale of Two Ornaments." There are also parts for people who want to be in skits or in a dance routine.

Auditions are done in a group setting, and are open to those with no acting experience as well as veteran actors. Because this is a family show, high school students are also encouraged to audition.

Performances will be Nov. 16 and Nov. 21-23, including a Parents' Night Out show on Nov. 23 with free child care for kids 6 months to 5 years old at the YMCA.

Ewenique quilt show this weekend

ST. PETER — The Ewenique Quilt Guild of St. Peter will hold its first biannual quilt show Oct. 12-13 at the Jesus Assembly of God Church, 722 Sunrise Drive.

More than 100 quilts and other hand-crafted items will be on display as well as antique sewing items and toy sewing machines. Door prizes, a gift boutique, special exhibits, demonstrations, and scissors sharpening will be offered throughout both days. “My Quilt Registry,” a free quilt journal donated by “It Takes Two”, will be given to all paid admissions while supplies last. Vendors will also be available to present information and demonstrations of quilting techniques, materials and equipment, including scrap quilt kits, long-arm quilting, and others.

There will be door prizes, a gift boutique, special exhibits and more offered throughout both days. Food and beverages will be available on site with the proceeds to benefit Royal Family Kids Camp, a church-sponsored youth activity.

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $5.
