---- — Mankato author launches 'Shockpocket' series today
MANKATO — Barnes and Noble will host the launch of Mankato author Henry L. Walton's “The Journals of Thaddeaus Shockpocket, Book One – Albion 77” today.
The event includes a reading at 11:30 a.m. and book signing through 1:30 p.m. at the Barnes and Noble mall location, 1850 Adams St.
According to a press release: "The book follows numerous misadventures of the eccentric English turn-of-the-century Shockpocket clan, comprised of: attention-deficit scientist and father Thaddeaus, hyperactive and precocious 12-year-old daughter Tweak, nonconformist teenage son Sherlock, and studious wife Katherine. The humorous, illustrated book is sprinkled with scientific and cultural tidbits as the Shockpocket family faces many challenges, including misplacing two members of the family.

On tap: A club for female beer lovers
NORTH MANKATO — The first-ever members' meeting for the all-female beer appreciation club, Barley's Angels of Southern Minnesota, will be held Tuesday.
Membership in the club is $5 per meeting, or $50 yearly. The cost for Tuesday's event — which begins at 6 p.m. at the Mankato Brewery, 1119 Center St. in North Mankato — is $10. Price includes brewery tour, sampling and Mankato Brewery pint glass. Cash is required.
The group's mission is "to educate women of all levels of beer knowledge." Members meet twice a month — once for an educational meeting and once for a social meeting.

TRCA hosting ArtTalks on Monday
MANKATO — The Twin Rivers Council for the Arts is hosting the next in its series of ArtTalks events on Monday.
The events provide an opportunity to learn about TRCA artists and organizations and how to get involved. Monday's presenters include Gregg Anderson of Gallery 19, Liz Bode of RakStar Fusion Bellydancers and Wilbur Neushwander-Frink of Aktion Club Theater of Mankato.
The hour-long meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Emy Frentz Arts Guild, 523 S. Second St. Admission is free for TRCA affiliates and $5 for general public.
