Fourth of July activities planned in Mankato, St. Peter

Minnesota Square Park in St. Peter is always a good destination for families on the Fourth of July.

Once again this year there will be plenty of activities in the park. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday there will be the annual Arts Fair in the Square, with a picnic at noon Sunday. There will be food vendors, activities for kids, music by One Fast Move and a beer tent.

The fireworks will be 10 p.m. Sunday at the Nicollet County Fairgrounds. For the first time this year, the fireworks in Mankato will be at Riverfront Park. Be sure to bring a blanket or lawnchair, and don’t forget the bug spray.

Festivities are planned for Independence Day celebrators who go to the park earlier Sunday evening. At 7:30 p.m., the Murphy Brothers Band will play, and several local vendors will be selling food and beverages.

The public is welcome to pack picnic lunches, but glass bottles and grills will not be allowed in the park.

Free shuttle service will be offered from the west side of the civic center to the park.
