Landlocked and MWAC generate donations, buzz

MANKATO -- The Midwest Art Catalyst has donated $2,000 to the Kids Making Music program in Mankato.

Proceeds came from MWAC’s Post-Holiday Extravaganza event held in April. Kids Making Music refurbishes used band instruments for area students.

In addition, Landlocked Magazine -- proceeds from which also go toward MWAC, which in turn provides funding for arts and music programs for Mankato students -- generated a national buzz with its June issue. The issue features the art of Aaron Horkey, an area artist whose highly ornate works are steeped in visceral imagery and counter-culture nomenclature, and who has developed a wide and rabid fan base. Interviews with Horkey are extremely rare and the issue included an in-depth question-and-answer as well as a reproduction of his work on the cover.

Landlocked and MWAC received requests for the issue from around the country and have nearly exhausted the printed supply.
