Cruising along: Steinberg, Rupp pair for dueling piano act

At Buster's today before Steinberg departs for Caribbean gig

Unless you've scheduled a Royal Caribbean cruise to the Bahamas this summer, today might be your last chance until autumn to catch Garrett Steinberg and Cindy Rupp's dueling piano act.

Steinberg and Rupp, who will be joined by a full band, take the stage 8 p.m. to midnight today at Buster's Sports Bar and Grill. Admission is $5 at the door. (Also available are $30 VIP tickets with meal and private dining and $10 reserved seating tickets.)

And even though the spirited pair of pianists have only recently taken their show out of church and onto the stage — they actually met in 2007 when Steinberg played trombone in her worship band at Hosanna Lutheran Church — they will be taking a four-month hiatus at the end of May.

That's because Steinberg, who is now music director at Christ the King and a recent graduate of Minnesota State University with a piano performance degree, has accepted a gig aboard the Royal Caribbean's 2,446-passenger ship, "Enchantment of the Seas."

"I made it the first time I tried out," Steinberg said. "I was lucky to get on a Royal Caribbean cruise."

Today's marks the duo's third show since debuting their act in March at the WowZone. They bring a high level of energy and theatricality to performances, and a cover a range of songs and styles.

Steinberg said they plan on resurrecting the show upon his return from the Bahamas and continuing to play throughout the region.

The band includes: Johnathan Moeller (guitar), Mike Much (bass), Ryan Rader (drums) and Jessica Pritchett (vocals).
