MADELIA —With an all-new barbecue contest and blues festival on Saturday and an expanded schedule of events, Madelia will host its revamped Park Days event on Thursday through Sunday.
Activities begin 6 p.m. on Thursday with picnic and a movie in Watona Park. The grand parade is 7 p.m. on Friday followed by live music and fireworks at 10 p.m.
On Saturday, Madelia hosts the Blazin’ Barbeque Blast barbeque contest sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS). Since the contest is a KCBS sanctioned event, the grand champion automatically qualifies for the American Royal World Series of Barbeque Invitational contest that is held in October each year in Kansas City.
The day continues with a blues festival anchored by southern Minnesota favorites City Mouse from 6:45-8:15 p.m. The lineup also includes Billy and the Bangers (noon-1:30 p.m.), Lisa Wenger Band (2:15-3:45 p.m.) and Boom Boom Steve V and The Knockouts (4:30-6 p.m.). Saturday's activities also include a bean bag, fishing, volleyball and softball tournaments.
