Blues pianist Scottie Miller at MSU; Dallas Brass holding clinic, concert

MANKATO – Blues/boogie piano player and songwriter Scottie Miller returns to Mankato for a performance at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Minnesota State University's Elias J. Halling Recital Hall.

The concert is part of the MSU Department of Music Performance Series. The recital hall is located in the Earley Center for Performing Arts, 320 Maywood Ave.

From the press release: "Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame member Miller is an American pianist and singer-songwriter from Minneapolis. His musical style is a combination of blues, soul, funk and jazz. Miller is recognized for his high-energy performances, creative songwriting, dramatic lyrics and impeccable piano playing.

Miller performs worldwide as a solo artist or with the Scottie Miller Band. Scottie is also the touring keyboardist for 2010 Grammy nominee and multi-Blues Music Award recipient Ruthie Foster & The Family Band. He appears on her 'Live At Antones' DVD, which garnered a 2012 Blues Music Award for DVD Of The Year."

Dallas Brass holding clinic, concert Thursday

MANKATO — The Dallas Brass, an acclaimed music ensemble, will join the Mankato West High School bands and the Dakota Meadows Middle School eighth-grade band for a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in the West High School auditorium, 1351 South Riverfront Drive.

The Dallas Brass will host a clinic and rehearsal with students during the day. During the Dallas Brass' evening performance, students will join the professionals for a song.

Reduced price tickets are available in advance ($10) at the West High School office, The Music Mart (1014 North Riverfront Drive), or from a West High School band student. Tickets can be purchased at the event for $12.
