Live music: WookieFoot at Red Sky show; Bloodnstuff atMidtown; EP for Old Towne Ghosts

MANKATO — The socially-conscious Minnesota band WookieFoot headlines a five-band, two-stage, live music event on Friday at Red Sky Lounge.

Music begins at 7:30 p.m. and admission is $15.

The music also lineup includes Jon Wayne and The Pain, Mick Bliss, Dead Larry and Useful Jenkins.

WookieFoot has risen to popularity for its eclectic approach to music, theatrical live performances and charitable efforts. The band released its sixth album, “Ready or Not,” in September to mostly positive reviews for its genre-splicing reggae sound and literate lyrical content.

“They get the crowd involved and hyped,” wrote Christy Steinbach in an email. Steinbach is the owner of Full Moon Productions, which is promoting the show. “There is nothing else like working with Wookiefoot. It is a full-production show.”

Mankato acoustic folk and bluegrass band Useful Jenkins is also fresh off the release of its latest studio effort, “Festival Express,” which represents a follow-up to 2009’s “Fast Eddie.”

Bloodnstuff, Old Towne Ghosts at Midtown

Bloodnstuff, the winner of the City Pages’ 2012 Best Rock Band award, plays Saturday at Midtown Tavern.

The show begins at 9 p.m. with Buildings, a Minneapolis grunge/punk band. Local punk band Old Towne Ghosts continues at 10:15 p.m. and Bloodnstuff takes the stage at 11:15 p.m.

Bloodnstuff is a hard-driving, two-piece Twin Cities band that has received wide praise during its short existence, most recently for its 2012 self-titled release.

Old Towne Ghosts recently completed a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund a vinyl recording of original material. In little more than a month, the band reached its nearly $5,000 fundraising goal and is planning to release its 12-inch EP in late December or early January.

In addition, Midtown Tavern is hosting Little Prairie Pickers and Brothers Burn Mountain on Friday.
