James C. Huggins, age 68, of Fort Mohave, AZ, and formerly of Mankato, MN died on December 27, 2007 at Valley View Medical Center in Fort Mohave.

Jim was born on October 19, 1939 in Dixon, IL to Thelma and Earl Huggins. His mother remarried Robert Spohn after Earl Huggins’ passing in 1947. Jim married Diane (Miller) in 1957. She passed away in 1971. He remarried LaDonna M. (Olson) a few years later and then sadly, she also passed away. He then met and married Sharon (VanGuilder) and they had been married almost 30 years.

Jim — “Huggy Bear” — as his friends called him was a first lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He worked for Mankato Corporation for over 25 years and was also a Mankato firefighter. He sponsored and played slow pitch softball for numerous teams in the Mankato area. In 1988, he left Minnesota for Arizona and a business venture in which he owned and operated the Hair Affair Salon until his retirement in 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Fort Mohave, AZ; his children, Tony and wife Jeanne of Mankato, MN, Robin, of Minneapolis, MN, Kristen, of Madison Lake, MN and Kelly, of North Mankato; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Bill Spohn of Marathon, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, an older brother, Dick Huggins, and two previous wives, Diane K (Miller) and LaDonna M. (Olson).

He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

A memorial gathering in celebration of his life will be held January 11, 2008 from 4-7 p.m. at Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home in Mankato, MN. A prayer service will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Jim’s wishes were to have his body donated to science and his remains to be spread along the Colorado River.
