Funeral services for Lorraine M. Bauman, 78, of Fairmont, MN, will be Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fairmont. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be Monday, November 10, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Lorraine passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont.
Lorraine M. (Steppel) Bauman was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1929, in St. Peter, MN, the daughter of Norbert and Adrienne (Maes) Steppel. She attended school in St. Peter and graduated from St. Peter High School in 1947. Lorraine then attended Mankato State Teachers College.
On May 14, 1949, Lorraine was united in marriage to Donald Bauman. Together the couple made their home in Fairmont where they were blessed with three children, Gail, Todd, and Thomas.
Lorraine was very active in helping her husband, Don with his insurance and stock brokerage business. In 1980, Lorraine and Don started the Fairmont Chapter of The Compassionate Friends for Bereaved Parents, Grandparents, and Siblings, a project that they both continued to be very active in. Lorraine was extremely involved with Compassionate Friends on the National Level as well by being a member of the board serving on the Finance Committee. Lorraine also served on the Maplewood Board at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Services. She was Golf Chairperson at the Interlaken Golf Course and was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ helping by being a Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent, and serving on the Christian Education Board.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Donald of Fairmont, MN; daughter, Gail Bauman of Yankton, SD; son, Todd Bauman and wife Bev of Nachodasis, LA; granddaughter, Kate Judd and husband, Willie of San Diego, CA; grandson, William of Jamestown, ND; one brother, Richard Steppel and wife Judy of Dayton, OH; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Bauman and wife, Elaine of Byron, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to her parents, Lorraine is preceded in death by one son, Thomas Jason Bauman.
The family prefers memorials be given to the Fairmont Chapter of the Compassionate Friends, Lakeview Health Care Center, First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fairmont, and Lakeview Hospice Services. A special thanks to Dr. Braaten for all of his support and guidance during Lorraine’s illness.
