Your View: Walz on right side of dispute

The Free Press was right to editorialize against the Farm Bill provision that blocks the local production of fruits and vegetables on base acres.

However, the editorial’s generalized condemnation of “those in Congress writing the new Farm Bill” fails to mention an important exception: The member of the House Agriculture Committee who represents our own district, Tim Walz.

On March 7, 2007, Rep. Walz was one of the four initial cosponsors of H.R. 1371, the Farming Flexibility Act of 2007 (Farm Flex), which would have eliminated the very restriction that The Free Press decries.
