Many letters to the editor have been written recently in regard to some human interest issues, for example, the letter about the Theresa House and its need for donations to ensure continuation of services for the homeless; the letter about funding early childhood education, as it is the cornerstone of so many factors in a child’s life; and many others.

As a graduate student in social work at Minnesota State University, it is so exciting for me to see the public interest and support in helping those among us who are the most vulnerable. Healthy communities are so important in the lives of young people, and the fact that Mankato has been recognized as one of the 100 Best Communities for Youth is outstanding.

According to the Search Institute, an engaged community is one of the most vital pieces of youth development. Mankato and the surrounding area should be proud of its citizens who are so invested in the future of their youth, and thus, their community.

Please continue to support the individuals, programs and legislation which will ensure that Mankato remains one of the 100 Best Communities for Youth for many years to come.
