Your View: Walz is disloyal to his district

Gordon Walker, Good Thunder

In response to Karen Foreman’s Your View opinion Saturday, it is not hard to find facts on Tim Walz’s lack of local loyalty. Numerous resources report which representatives voted for bills and the verbiage of the bills — govtrack.us or clerk.house.gov, for example.

With the resources I mentioned, anyone can research and make an informed opinion of their own. Walz voted “yes” for the mislabeled “Climate Control” bill, also known as Cap-And-Trade. Another fact (from govtrack.us actual text of the bill) is that this bill makes provisions for direct monthly deposits to bank accounts for low-income families for “loss of purchasing power that will result in the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009." A minuscule piece of the bill, but it leads to an important question: Yet another new welfare program?

This indicates that the government is aware of the tremendous adverse effect this bill will have on Americans’ budgets. Why would this clause need to be in the bill if it was not going to be taking significant money away from the taxpayers’ pockets? Additionally, if several hundred pages of amendments were added to this bill at 3 a.m. the morning of the vote, would Walz have had time to review it? Which is more likely: Walz stayed up critically analyzing these amendments and their impacts on southern Minnesota before voting a few hours later, or that he had promised his vote to Nancy Pelosi at his “fundraiser” weeks ago and it

didn’t matter what was added?

How much more evidence is needed that his representation is not for southern Minnesota?
