In response: Column unfair to Amish, heater

We appreciate the opportunity to respond to Tim Krohn’s column (“You Can’t Trust Anyone,” Nov. 26).
His column misrepresents facts about Heat Surge, our Roll-N-Glow Fireplace, and the Amish people who handcraft the fireplace mantles.
Satisfied customers nationwide have attested to the comfort and energy savings with the fireplace, which has been evaluated by the Good Housekeeping Research Institute and is backed with the Good Housekeeping Seal in addition to UL certification.
In his story, Krohn tries to compare the heat emitted from our fireplace to a wood-burning stove, even misidentifying our product as an electric stove. His comparison is like comparing apples and oranges. Heat Surge acknowledges that there are other ways of conserving on our energy bills. To be sure, those of us with the time and persistence enough to heat our homes with a wood stove are sure to save money on oil and gas generated heat. For most of us, however, in apartments or homes with an oil or gas furnace who simply wish to stay warm and not pay unreasonable sums for oil and gas this winter; the Heat Surge Roll-N-Glow Fireplace is perfect for zone heating your home and provides all the ambiance and the aesthetics of a real open burning wood fireplace without the mess, smell and effort. It’s true that a wood-burning stove may put out more heat than an electric heater, but it also requires a chimney, creates smoke and ashes and cannot be moved from room to room to use zone heating.
Our electric fireplace is portable and works by heating the rooms you use the most and presents the ambience of real fire without the mess of a wood-burning fireplace. It requires no installation or firewood, just open it up and plug it in.
Krohn also makes several misstatements about our Heat Surge and the Amish people. Headquartered in Canton, Ohio, Heat Surge is located near the heart of Amish country; we work in cooperation with hundreds of nearby Amish craftsmen who make the real wood mantles. With attention to quality and detail, Amish-made products are in high demand across the country and we’re proud to partner with the local Amish craftsmen. It’s our combined work that brings our quality electric fireplaces with Amish-made mantles to homes throughout the United States and Canada. There are various sects of Amish people with varying beliefs within the Amish religion. Those working with our company allow us to take predominantly profile pictures and do so on the condition that the pictures focus on the hand-made quality of the fireplace.
It is our belief that Mr. Krohn should have reserved his judgment until he had a better understanding of the differences between the sects of the Amish religion. We stand for quality alongside the Amish on our hand-built Amish-made wood mantles combined with a state-of-the-art heater with a “Fireless Flame.” We appreciate the opportunity to set the record straight.
