Officials not responsive on MNsure help

---- — As an independent insurance advisor who spent the last four months dealing with the many frustrations of MNsure, for the first time I found myself reaching out for help from some of our local and federally-elected officials. As could be described as government ineptness in its finest hour, some of the errors and mistakes of MNsure simply were roadblocks that could not be resolved by the undertrained staff of employees at MNsure.

I will readily admit that I don’t agree with the political views of many of the representatives I reached out to for help. Nonetheless, they were extolling the virtues of this new health care program, so I thought they would be willing to help with the continued problems I and many other people were experiencing.

I contacted Sen. Al Franken’s office several times, and every time was treated to a return canned response thanking me for contacting his office. What was most disappointing is there was no offer to help, only plenty of requests asking to contribute to Franken’s political campaign.

I thought we elected officials to represent their constituents in a time of need, not for them to use it as an opportunity to fundraise, silly me.

Franken continues to prove that he has no interest in serving the people, only in getting re-elected.

By the way, the two times I reached out to Congressman Tim Walz’s office, I got no response.

I will, however, give credit to our local senator’s staff for their willingness to help. Kathy Sheran’s staff several times followed up to make sure my concerns and problems with MNsure were being dealt with. Sheran has long been shown not to be an advocate to people in my industry, but I will give her staff credit for going beyond my expectations to help.

Franken and Walz, not so much.
