By Vicki Hunter, North Mankato
I met Clark Johnson the very first year I moved to Mankato, seven years ago. He headed a committee that selected students for the social studies program at MSU, and I was fortunate to have been asked to serve on this committee.
I was immediately struck by Clark Johnson's intensity and positive outlook. I had never met someone who smiles so genuinely and so often. He cared so much about each of the students who had applied to the program. In our meetings, he remembered many details of their personal situations and struggles (and there were a lot of applicants).
The social studies program at MSU has stringent entry criteria, and he never wavered from holding students to very high standards, but he worked intently with struggling students to encourage them and help them find opportunities to heighten their performance.
I strongly believe that Clark Johnson would demonstrate the same intensity, compassion, fairness and positive outlook as the state representative for our district (19A). He genuinely cares about the people he would represent, whether they are students or his future constituents. He would remember the stories and the struggles of the people he represents and he would think about those individuals when making choices for our state.
I truly hope that voters in District 19A (North Mankato, St. Peter, near Sibley Park and behind Menards) will show up in droves Tuesday to send Clark Johnson to the Minnesota House of Representatives.
There has never been a more sincere and enthusiastic advocate for democracy for all people than Clark Johnson.
