Your View: Hoffner should be at the game

By Steve Kibble, MSU alumni and football player

— Where is our leadership at MSU? At what point in the process do you accept the results and move on? After last Friday's decision on coach Hoffner's case, someone from the university should have extended the offer to coach Hoffner to come and attend the football game and cheer on his team.

Coach Hoffner has been in the coaching profession for more than 20 years, and is smart enough to realize, and has enough respect for coach Keen, that he can't come in at this point in the season and make any decisions. Hoffner built this team and should have the respect to at least be on the sidelines, stands or press box to watch.

We all realize the University has made the statement that their own internal investigation is still going on with coach Hoffner. After going through 100-plus days of a nightmare for the coach, his wife and family, don't you think someone at the university would make a decision and show some class and reinstate this man? Obviously, a judge's decision on dropping the criminal charges isn't enough for the school to throw the towel in and get on with life.

The MSU football team has reached a place we have never been before and the recruiting season has already started with all the success. We need a decision now so assistant coaches can have some confidence moving forward when talking with prospective recruits. MSU football can't miss this rare opportunity that we have in front of us.

Please show some class and goodwill to the athletic community and Mankato community and do the right thing. Bring back coach Hoffner and start another amazing run.
