Newspaper reports decry the small size of the annual increase in next year’s Social Security payments. Perhaps we should applaud the reason for those small increases.
The Consumer Price Index has remained virtually flat this year. Cost of living adjustments for Social Security recipients are based on increases in the CPI-W during the third calendar quarter of the year.
Not only would most consider this good news, it might be shocking news for those who decry the Federal Reserve’s stimulative monetary policy as action that is certain to lead to inflation.
