The Mankato Free Press
---- — The Mankato Downtown Kiwanis’ annual summer event the Thunder of Drums drum and bugle corps competition recently held at Minnesota State University’s Blakeslee Field was attended by thousands of Mankato Area residents and visitors from at least 134 other communities and 13 states. This year we were pleased to host international visitors with the addition of the Stabekk School Band from Norway to our pre-show lineup.
The overall event produced a high-energy, celebratory atmosphere. However, we have become aware that this year we faced some challenges with reserved seating due to errors made in the printing of the tickets. To those who were inconvenienced, we sincerely apologize and thank you for your patience. We are correcting this for future events as it is always our number one priority to have everyone attending the show enjoy an exciting evening of riveting music and colorful, precise pageantry.
We, the Thunder of Drums committee, and the Mankato Downtown Kiwanis are thankful to everyone who attended, which allows us to contribute the net proceeds to youth projects including Camp Patterson on Lake Washington, which annually hosts more than 2,500 children during camping season, the Mankato 77 Lancers Marching Band, and all Kiwanis youth service clubs. We thank those who have supported the Kiwanis Thunder of Drums for the last 23 years and hope to earn your continued support for next year’s show.
