The Mankato Free Press
---- — I have really wondered, for some time, if any of the sports writers of The Free Press ever wore a jock strap. Maybe it’s just my perception; however, so many articles seem to carry a negative tone.
A recent example: on Sunday a picture of an Minnesota State University baseball player making a miscue. How unfortunate but real life. Instead, why couldn’t a picture of the conquerors of the second-place ranking in U.S. Division II baseball have been shown with their coaching staff — and that trophy — and the associated smiles?
That would have been positive and timely news. Here again, evidence of previous participation in athletics by the sports writers could possibly have brought forth a different presentation of this story.
Once again. Headline on front page Monday: “MSU baseball team looks back on loss” and on page B6: “After disappointing loss in title game, Mavs are back.”
My case rests.
