High schools should stress creativity

It is the season for the graduation of 18 year olds and I’m reminded of Horatio’s advice to the young Hamlet:

“To thine own self be true.”

Only then can our kids follow Thoreau’s: “Advance confidently in the direction of your dreams.”

Elementary and secondary schools are the incubators and developers of the Self.

So with great weariness I hear the mantra, “ produce the world’s greatest workforce” repeated by politicians and even by high school administrators.

School districts should not be responsible for training workers for huge corporate ant hills. Please do not vocationalize high schools.

Creative 18 year olds will create a world filled with creative jobs.
