Your View: A partnership can grow Mankato hockey

— Minnesota State University and the City of Mankato wish they could fill the seats for college hockey games and people wonder why Mankato can't support Division I hockey. Well, Mankato does support MSU hockey.

MSU should recognize its inability to market its hockey team regionally and the city should realize they have a growing partner in the Mankato youth and adult hockey associations, which are also handcuffed by its current facility.

For 40 years, hockey players that have paid their way to play at All Seasons Arena, have been mostly left out of civic center plans. The growth of Mankato's hockey culture is directly linked. If the proposed multi-sport complex and ice rinks are built, Mankato youth and adult hockey will grow along with the ability to bring in regional hockey fans.

Alumni, hockey fans and families from the metro and surrounding cities should be drawn in a larger capacity to our community for hockey games and tournaments.

MSU and the city of Mankato should partner with Mankato youth and adult hockey in order to grow the regional support for Maverick hockey.

One could argue that this has been tried before, but in reality it hasn't happened.
