Tea party shutdownnot democracy
Al DeKruif’s Your View published in The Free Press Oct. 31 shows some incredible ignorance.
He insists we are not a Democracy. He’s trying to say that we are a constitutional republic, and then he insists that “a republic is representative government ruled by law (the Constitution) where sovereignty resides in people. A democracy is goverment ruled by the majority (mob rule).”
Since when is democracy mob rule? Is DeKruif trying to tell us that Somalia is a democracy? How about Afghanistan? Iran?
A basic study of our Constitution will show that we are ruled by consent of the governed (us).
We have a government of the people, by the people and for the people. We are all endowed by our creator to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Does this sound like mob rule?
We are seeing exactly why the tea party (aka Republican Party) is thought of so poorly. They think they can do whatever they want.
We need to put a stop to this nonsense once and for all. We need to elect people who remember the basic fact that they are elected to serve us, not the other way around.
It doesn’t matter if the candidate is Republican, Democrat or Independent.
