Your View: Clark Johnson is the right man for House District 19A

The citizens of Minnesota House District 19A lost a true leader and spokesperson for the people when Terry Morrow stepped down to assume another professional opportunity. We could always count on Morrow to approach controversial and critical issues with an open mind and an ability to work with his colleagues in shaping thoughtful, progressive and realistic solutions.

We will miss his presence in St. Paul.

Fortunately, someone has stepped forward to take on the challenges facing our state and representing the people of this area — Clark Johnson. He deserves your serious consideration as a candidate for District 19A.

I have known Clark Johnson for 30-plus years in my capacity as a teacher at Mankato West High School. Clark Johnson was a student teacher with me and later a teaching colleague at West. I also had the opportunity to teach with him at Minnesota State University and work with him on various educational projects, including the mentoring of prospective social studies teachers and advancing social studies education at the K-12 and university levels with teachers in the classroom.

We have been fortunate to have someone with his depth of understanding, commitment and passion for enhancing public education at all levels.

Clark Johnson is a reflective individual who seeks to understand all dimensions of issues before establishing a personal position. He listens to others in this process and is respectful of all opinions. He knows how to effectively collaborate in the search for solutions on controversial topics. He has a respect for tradition but also is a visionary in trying to improve our society and world.

Clark Johnson deserves your vote Tuesday.
