Charlie and Barb Thompson of North Mankato, flanked by sons Jason (left), and Jon, spoke Wednesday at a press conference about their son, U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Jacob Thompson. Sgt. Thompson died Monday when a bomb exploded while he was doing house-to-house searches with his unit in Iraq. Thompson was serving a three-month extension on his second tour of Iraq and had been scheduled to come home in mid-September.
