What is safe drinking?

What’s ‘safe’? Two drinks for men, one for women.

Many people might be surprised to find out what experts consider to be a safe amount of alcohol.

In order to drink safely, studies have shown men shouldn’t consume more than two drinks per “session” and women should stick to one drink, said Michael McGinnis, alcohol and drug counselor at Addiction Recovery Technologies.

One drink is one beer, a one-and-a-half ounce shot of 80 proof liquor or, generally, one 8-ounce glass of wine. Male beer drinkers in Minnesota and Wisconsin tend to drink five to six beers in a night, while hard liquor drinkers stay around the less-damaging two to three shots.
