Investigators are adding another vandalism incident to a list of rural crimes they believe could be linked.
It was reported Wednesday afternoon that the windows of a John Deere tractor had been smashed out, resulting in an estimated $3,000 in damage. The tractor had been parked in a field south of Beauford, near the intersection of Highway 22 and Blue Earth County Road 164.
Because of the location of the tractor and the time frame the damage took place, investigators suspect the vandalism could be linked to two arson fires, the killing of several sheep and seven smashed mailboxes reported by Blue Earth County residents living between Mapleton and Minnesota Lake Monday. More incidents were reported in Faribault County.
The sheep were in a barn when they were beaten to death with a club or a metal bar, said Capt. Rich Murry of the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Department.
“We have some leads we’re working on,” Murry said Thursday morning.
