Teen dies on Sabre Lake

— Le Sueur County officials said they’ve recovered the body of a teen whose boat capsized in a lake near the town of Kilkenny.
Officials said the boat of 17-year-old Derrick Evans of Waterville overturned Saturday morning. Two other teens were able to reach the Sabre Lake shore, but police said Evans was last seen clinging to the boat.
The other teens in the boat with Evans were Dillon Carlson, 17, of Waterville, and Juan Garza, 18, of Waterville. Carlson and Garza told authorities the boat filled with water after they’d turned it into the wind and waves came over the bow.
Deputies said the water had been choppy due to windy conditions.
Authorities searched for Evans since about 9 a.m. They recovered his body about 1:30 p.m.
Kilkenny is about 30 miles northeast of Mankato.
