Never underestimate the power of new blood creatively applied to established tomfoolery.
Sauerkraut Days in Henderson was on life support awhile back when a group of forward thinkers got together and, it appears, got it right.
“We said, ‘Hey, this is a festival celebrating a cabbage, so let’s make fun of it,’” says Sauerkraut Days committee member Jeff Steinborn.
“If you don’t think outside the box, you’re kind of dead in today’s world.”
With summer town celebrations dotting the landscape like so many silos, Hendersonites went the tongue-in-cheek route to gain notice with gambits such as a sauerkraut-eating contest. Gobble 2 pounds of kraut the fastest and the crown is yours.
