Rescuers responding to a report of a man being burned in a campfire at Kiesler’s Campground & RV Resort east of Waseca arrived to find a dead body Saturday night.
Alden Patton, who was at a nearby campground and is a first responder, ran over to help the man, said Charlene Cukla of Blaine. When they got to the man, the couple and a third man threw a wet towel on him.
“We rolled him over and realized he had expired,” Cukla said.
Cukla and others said that, though there was a cry for help, nothing was heard from the victim. They suspect his death was caused by a medical condition that occurred prior to him falling in the fire.
Waseca County Chief Deputy Brad Milbrath said the death is being investigated. No one witnessed the death, so it is policy to have an autopsy completed before determining cause of death. He would not give an age of the victim and the name is being withheld pending notification of the family.
No additional information is expected until early next week.
