Tanks in demand for county fairs

The Borglums will have their tanks in Albert Lea during part of the Freeborn County Fair July 31 through Aug. 5. They have also agreed to attend Shooters Roundup at Ahlman’s Gunshop north of Morristown Aug. 25 and 26

“We’re going to be at Dobie Days in Harmony Aug. 17 and 18, the first annual salute there to veterans,” Borglum said. “People will be able to drive the tanks then,” she said, adding that the insurance is in place.

The Blue Earth County Fair in Garden City Aug. 2-5 may also be included in their schedule. “Tentatively, we’re going to be there,” she said.

“We went to Harmony for the Fourth of July,” Borglum said. “The town embraced us.” The Borglums drove one of their track vehicles in the town’s parade down main street.

But all the planned appearances at fairs and other events hasn’t deterred the family from their original goal, Borglum said. They have hired a lawyer and plan to appeal the county board’s decision.

“We’d like to do both,” she said. While they enjoy the events in other cities, they still want to build the tank obstacle course and shooting ranges on their own land.

Borglum said, “There is good family fun here in Waseca in the summertime. We’d like to add to it.”
