Published August 22, 2008 04:22 pm - Mankato Police find cars splattered with mustard, chocolate sauce

Condiment crimes continue
Police warn to lock vehicles

Another string of condiment crimes has Mankato police warning residents to lock the doors of their vehicles at night.

Barbecue sauce, mustard, chocolate sauce and an orange liquid are among the pantry items poured into unlocked cars around Mankato Wednesday night or Thursday morning. Similar incidents throughout the summer have resulted in hundreds of dollars in damage.

The incidents started in west Mankato, but have moved to locations throughout the city. People living at three residences on Bittersweet Lane, two residences on Carney Avenue and one residence on South Redwood Drive reported damage Thursday.

There is likely more than one person responsible for the crime, but police believe the people involved know each other.

“We do have some leads we’re looking at,” said Cmdr. Amy Vokal.
